Hey Y’all,
My name is Charmane Neal, and in 2020, I founded Hey Y’all Detroit, a nonprofit organization dedicated to uplifting and empowering disenfranchised communities across Detroit. Our mission is rooted in food justice and equity—we host free farmers markets, offer free grocery delivery programs, and maintain community garden spaces to ensure access to fresh, healthy food.
Beyond that, we run a children’s book club, providing books and STEM projects to over 100 kids every month. We also support our unhoused neighbors through essential supply drives, and we’re involved in many other efforts to serve and strengthen our community.
Unfortunately, on Monday, May 5th, we lost our main source of funding—$25,000—due to federal cuts to nonprofit programs across the country under the Trump administration’s efforts to reduce so-called “governmental waste.” This unexpected loss puts us at serious risk of shutting down.
Right now, we’re urgently raising $1,500 to carry us through June as we apply for grants and continue our fundraising efforts. We’re calling on our community—please give what you can, and help spread the word. Every donation makes a difference.
