On March 13th in Hāna, Maui, a powerful storm swept through the rainforest. During the storm, a large Banyan tree fell onto Kirsten’s cabin—the place she shared with her three cats, her dog, and the land she has lovingly cared for over many years. Miraculously, Kirsten and her animals survived. This campaign begins with gratitude for their safety and a deep respect for the life and sanctuary that has been built at Hāna Tropical.

Hāna Tropical is a small, working farm in East Maui, rooted in cultivating rare and exotic orchids, stewardship of tropical land and biodiversity, care for animals, and creating a quiet, intentional place connected to nature. This is not a commercial resort or large operation, but a personal, land-based life’s work.

The storm caused significant damage: structural impact to the main living space and debris from the fallen Banyan tree. Funds raised will support the safe removal of the tree, rebuilding a modest and resilient living structure, restoration of orchid-growing areas, replacement of essential tools and systems, repair of basic infrastructure (water, power, access), and continued care for the animals who call Hāna Tropical home.
