This fundraiser exists because a powerful religious organisation and its charity are using the courts to try to silence survivors of abuse. The Get A Life podcast, a survivor-led archive of more than 160 episodes exposing the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church (PBCC), is now under legal attack by the PBCC’s charity, the Rapid Relief Team. If this legal bullying succeeds, thousands of hours of survivor testimony could be erased overnight.

Cheryl, along with a team of other former members of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church, launched the Get A Life podcast as a platform for PBCC survivors to tell their stories, many for the very first time. What began as a small survivor-led project has grown into a vital public resource. With more than 160 episodes, Get A Life is now a primary source for journalists, researchers, and advocates reporting on the PBCC and its associated entities.

The podcast opened the floodgates. For the first time, a safe and supportive space existed where PBCC survivors could speak freely, without fear of punishment or shunning, and begin to unburden themselves of the grief and trauma inflicted on those who leave the cult. These testimonies are raw, honest, and deeply personal and for many survivors, speaking out has been a crucial part of healing.

Recently, the PBCC’s charitable arm, the Rapid Relief Team (RRT), launched a copyright lawsuit against the Get A Life channel after their cartoon mascot, “Cookie Bird,” appeared briefly in podcast content where we were criticising the hypocrisy of RRT’s public messaging. This was clear commentary and criticism but instead of responding publicly or engaging in good faith, the PBCC and RRT chose litigation.

As many of you know, the PBCC has a long history of using drawn-out legal action to intimidate critics and exhaust opponents. This GoFundMe has been created to help protect Get A Life and to preserve the voices of every survivor who has spoken out on the channel.

This lawsuit is not just an attack on Cheryl or the Get A Life podcast, it is a direct attempt to silence survivors. If we do not fight back against these malicious SLAPP actions, the Get A Life YouTube channel is at risk of deletion. That would mean the permanent loss of more than 160 episodes and thousands of hours of first-hand survivor testimony- an irreplaceable public record that journalists, researchers, and survivors themselves rely on. This fundraiser exists to preserve those voices, defend the archive, and ensure that no cult can erase the truth through intimidation and legal bullying. Any remaining funds will go toward the ongoing costs of maintaining the Get A Life platform and supporting charities set up to help leavers of high demand religious groups.
