Gerry’s Cakes: Save Menlo Park’s 33-year Tradition!

For over 33 years, Gerry’s Cakes has been more than just a bakery in downtown Menlo Park—it has been the heart of our community. Gerry's has been there for all of life's sweetest moments, from birthdays and graduations to senior nights, special celebrations, or even a delicious treat on a random day.

The story of Gerry’s Cakes is deeply rooted in family and tradition. In 1957, John Stagi opened the Pink Pastry Shoppe on Santa Cruz Avenue, delighting patrons for nearly three decades. His son, Gerry Stagi, continued this legacy by establishing Gerry’s Cakes on Chestnut Street in 1993. In 2003, Gerry passed the torch to his dedicated employees. A decade later, in 2010, Sohrab Molavi, a California Culinary Academy graduate, took the helm after spending time as a baker in Gerry’s kitchen! Sohrab committed to preserving the bakery’s cherished recipes, using the original methods taught to him by Gerry himself while mixing in some of his inventions.

Now, Gerry’s Cakes and its wonderful owner, Sohrab, need our help. Due to a building sale, the bakery is being forced out. Moving a small

business is no easy task, and finding and outfitting a new space for a bakery comes with significant costs. “If I can get a new location, I will move. I would like to stay in Menlo Park, but the rent is so high everywhere. There is a lot of empty space, but it is hard to afford to move to a new location.” (Naab, The Almanac )

We want to ensure this beloved local institution has the support it needs to continue serving our community. Every donation, big or small, will go toward relocation expenses, securing a new space, equipment, employee costs, and making the necessary updates to keep Gerry’s Cakes baking for years to come.
