My name is Emily Beckwith. I lost my mother almost 4 years ago. I found out shortly after that she had been missing mortgage payments on the house we shared. I have been disabled since my early 20s. I have been eligible for section 8 housing among others. I was told very early on that I wasn't allowed to sign up for it and the wait time was long. Several local organizations were the ones telling me this.......I believed them. Only to discover that they were not telling me the truth. Several years pass as I try to find housing. Fast forward to several months ago and my estranged father is put into full time nursing home care. My brother and I immediately start moving me into the house. There is no plumbing or reliable heating, but that is a small problem in the scope of things. I reach out to the electric company that services the area. I need to be a mortgage holder or have full ownership of the property. My dad is willing to let me have the house. In all the years since his stroke he has developed dementia and has major legal problems of his own. He legally cannot leave the nursing home. Why does this all matter? He has lost all his old ID cards needed for property transfer. No ss card no driver's license. The only way to get the electric on before I freeze to death here is to pay his outstanding electric bill. Nearly $4000. I am currently in the foreclosed home I spoke of earlier. I have no heat and no way to get out. I am currently sick from being in a middle of a western NY snowstorm and the temperatures that go along with it. Me and my 3 kitties desperately need out of here as soon as possible. I am begging for help. I know I am not a very sad story. Middle aged, single, no kids. But I am absolutely in need of help. My disability money cannot carry the weight of all this and neither can I.
