WHO:
We're “Putnam County – Stop the Rock Quarry” a grassroots group of concerned citizens opposing the rezoning of land (currently zoned Agricultural) to Industrial-Manufacturing. This rezoning would fundamentally alter the character, safety, and environmental health of our community. Dennis Station Road and the surrounding areas are rural and residential in nature, and the introduction of an industrial-scale rock quarry is incompatible with current land use and community planning.
WHAT:
We’re raising money to continue paying for legal and environmental counsel. We’re truly grateful for our attorney Mr. Bill Larsen of Martin Snow, Macon, and our environmental consultant Mr. Richard Klein of Community & Environmental Defense Services, www.ceds.org. Both of these men remain a critical resource in our continued fight to stop the quarry.
WHY:
The rezoning would enable a granite quarry to operate on Dennis Station Road, close to Eatonton’s city limits and Lake Sinclair. The proposed quarry would introduce an intrusive, heavy industrial site resulting in a number of negative effects including: noise, vibrations from blasting, loss of ground water, risk to wells, water pollution, dust, sedimentation, storm water, traffic congestion, traffic safety issues, reduced property values, as well as the loss of tranquility and the peaceful enjoyment of our properties.
WHEN:
Upcoming critical meetings – Please Attend and Wear RED!
July 2nd, 6:30 pm. Planning and Zoning Commission meeting;
July 21st, 6:00 pm. Board of Commissioners meeting.
WHERE: To be determined.
MORE:
Our homes are not industrial zones. Our community is not for sale.
