Save Eat Americana on Balboa Stay Open

Eat Americana, formerly known as Americana Grill, has been on Balboa St since 1996 and has always been operated by Tony Lai and his trusted chef Lam Tao on his side.

Tony decided to update his restaurant with the help of chef James Moisey in 2016 and transformed the restaurant to a favorite local diner serving all American breakfast and dinner. Since then it has become a local favorite brunch spot.

He has survived the 2001 9/11 recession and 2008 recession but this COVID-19 pandemic crisis is like nothing he's ever experienced before.

I have admired Tony's generosity towards the community, the way he treats his staff with such kindness and his giving nature.  I admired his courage to change the business he'd had for 19 years to stay relevant with the current demand.  It's the joy of seeing people being happy that keeps bringing him back to his restaurant although he's thought about retiring quite a few times to spend more time with his grandchildren.

That's why we started the Outer Richmond Meal Help program to feed the people in need and to bring income to Eat Americana and other restaurants in the area. He was doing fine until he learned that the SBA went back on their words about the $10,000 cash advance for Economic Injury Disaster Loan will not be coming as promised.

As we learned how unfairly Paychecks Protection Plan funds were allocated to some multi-million dollar companies, businesses like Eat Americana are in real trouble.  So I'm turning to our community again to save our favorite neighbor.  Thank you all for reading.
