Help Us Save Democracy In Georgia

Since November 28, 2024, Georgians have been peacefully gathering in response to the government’s suspension of EU talks, a decision that threatens democracy and strengthens external influence in the region. Despite facing significant challenges, the people’s commitment to democratic values remains unwavering.

Our initiative provides medical aid, hotlines, and media support to these citizens, and your contribution is essential to sustaining this peaceful movement for a democratic future.

Further details:

Since November 28, 2024, hundreds of thousands of Georgians have peacefully rallied in Tbilisi and other cities after the government, following contested elections on October 26, announced a suspension of accession talks with the European Union until 2028. This decision marks a concerning step away from democratic principles and Georgia’s European aspirations, leaving the country more isolated and vulnerable to external pressures.

In response to these peaceful demonstrations, the ruling authorities have taken actions that many view as attempts to suppress free expression. Several protesters have been detained, and their treatment has raised serious concerns among international human rights organizations.

Despite these challenges, the Georgian people remain resolute. Their peaceful protests represent a critical effort to preserve democracy and align Georgia’s future with Europe and the West. The authorities have resisted calls for reform, but the movement for change remains strong.

At this critical juncture, it is essential that the people's voices continue to be heard until their demands are met: the release of all political prisoners detained during the protests, the resignation of the current government, and the holding of free and fair elections.

We are Liberty Institute (https://liberty.ge/en), a human rights advocacy NGO, and we have established an initiative group to support the ongoing efforts for democratic reform in Georgia. Your support is crucial to sustaining this peaceful movement. Here’s how your contributions will make a difference:

Hotline and Emergency Call Center
To assist protesters in locating those who have been detained, injured, or are missing.

Medical Aid for Injured Protesters
To deliver immediate first aid and stabilize injured individuals before facilitating their safe transfer to ambulances or medical facilities

Production and Media Campaigns
To create and share important content, including videos, posters, and informational materials that document the situation, counter misinformation, and inspire continued support for the movement.

These initiatives are already underway, but it is unclear how long this effort will need to continue. Your contribution will help ensure that these critical support systems remain in place for as long as necessary.

By supporting our work, you are helping to protect democracy in Georgia. Thank you for standing with us.
