Leave Our Hills Alone (LOHA) is a community led group formed to Save Dalmacallan from Vestas' wind farm proposal.

Dalmacallan Hill is a residential settlement and Dalmacallan Forest, known for its diversity of plants and wildlife, is a popular walking spot for locals and visitors. The hill is a prominent part of the ridge that surrounds the village of Moniaive and creates the bowl of the Glencairn valley. This windfarm of outsize turbines is one of several more, proposed and consented, that, together, would form a ring of steel around Moniaive, industrialising the landscape and destroying it forever.

Proposing to build up to 16 turbines reaching 200m in height on Dalmacallan Hill, just 2.17 miles south of Moniaive, the wind farm would not stand in isolation.

Should neighbouring proposals be consented, the rural communities would be surrounded by a vast 'sea' of turbines, replacing 400 square miles of peat and moss rich moorlands, forests, trig points and burns with over 115 miles of tracks, hard core access routes, substations and over 670,000 tonnes of concrete. We believe that climate action must not come at the cost of environmental destruction, loss of democratic participation, or irreversible harm to the places people call home. With so many wind farm applications being submitted in Dumfries & Galloway, residents are very concerned and proposes that these ill-founded schemes are nothing to do with energy security or lower bills, but are simply a platform for predominantly off-shore investors to accrue ever-greater wealth by exploiting Scottish rural landscapes and the people who enjoy living there, hiding behind the convenient flag of Net Zero governmental policies.

As a campaign group, we ask that our elected officials recognise these truths and start representing their constituents and listening to their concerns rather than pandering to these foreign commercial interests.

So, why are we fundraising?

In opposing the application for a windfarm on Dalmacallan, we are up against a wealthy global wind turbine manufacturer, Vestas (Danish owned) together with Wind Power North One (Vestas' UK registered company), and their English wind farm promoter, Force 9 Energy. Profits generated through the Dalmacallan development will not remain in Scotland. However, the locals living in the shadow of the wind farm will not be compensated for the utter destruction of their surroundings.
