Crossroads - A 30-Year Legacy of Punk, Community, and Indigenous Resistance!

Introduction: For three decades, Crossroads has stood as a pillar of punk ethos, community building, and a hub for Indigenous resistance in Canberra. Originating from a commitment to DIY values, our share house has not only hosted incredible music shows but has also served as a space for fostering artistic expression, cultural diversity, and grassroots resistance movements. As we celebrate surviving another year, we are embarking on a critical mission to sustain our infection of local banality, expand our impact, and welcome new voices into our vibrant community.

Our Story: Crossroads has been more than a punk share house; it has been a nexus for Indigenous resistance, a platform for emerging artists, and a space where creativity flourishes. Our venue has been a melting pot of diverse voices, uniting people through a shared passion for authentic, independent music, and providing a haven for those just getting started and those ready to challenge the status quo.

The Challenge: While our commitment to the DIY ethos has been unwavering, the financial challenges of maintaining a punk share house persist. In addition to addressing immediate needs, we aim to transform Crossroads into a sustainable hub for artistic exploration and Indigenous expression. We are reaching out to our community to ensure the continued vitality of our space and expand our impact in new and meaningful ways.

The Goal: Our fundraising goal is to raise between $2000 and $10,000 to address the critical needs of our space $2000 in the short term gets us past Christmas and providing space into invasion day period, If we get over that there is the possibility of stress being eased enough to truly think about creating some noise and opportunities. By some miracle we hit 10 I can guarantee a program to get people talking, a year of trouble and a safe handover to a new gen.

Plug the Rent Hole: We lost all our housemates over the peak of the referendum with zero notice and the financial burn was intense, we’ve partially plugged that hole

Venue Renovations: Enhancing the infrastructure to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for future generations, with a particular focus on creating more music and art production spaces.

Equipment Fixes: Making sure community library of music equipment is functional and continues to be able to be lent out for shows and gigs for free.

Indigenous Residency Programs: Creating opportunities for Indigenous artists to engage in residencies, fostering the intersection of punk, art, and cultural expression.

Community Outreach Programs: Expanding our reach to engage with the wider community through workshops, educational events, and collaborative projects.

More and Better Gigs: Goes without saying getting out of treading water means dedicating time and resources to putting on good shows, the possible return of Femme Daddy parties and maybe even that block party talked about for a while.
