Black Market Nubian has been a Tree of Life, rooted for nearly a decade in Roxbury, providing a dynamic platform for Black Culture, Creativity, Commerce and Community. As we approach our 10th anniversary, we are facing our most urgent challenge yet: the possibility of closing our doors in 17 days on April 30, if we cannot raise the funds needed to secure our sacred space. This is bigger than Black Market—over the past few years, our Community-at-large has had a disproportionate amount of legal action, business closures, joblessness, and retracted commitments on opportunities promised in 2021 during the "Racial Reckoning." In a time of rapid gentrification and displacement of Black Spaces, our fight is not just for survival, but for the right to remain and thrive in the community we have always called home. We must act quickly to prevent being uprooted from the ecosystem we have worked so hard to build in our own neighborhood. This is not the first time we have faced adversity, but it is by far the most critical moment in our journey.
