Local residents have been campaigning against the wholly inappropriate major development of 114 residential units (block of flats and houses) on designated Open Space (protected land) and a desperately needed Sports Ground since June 2024. Despite raising valid objections and consultees raising objections including Sport England, Redbridge Council approved the development on 12 May 225.
This green field site is located adjacent to the Queen Elizabeth Park II in Barkingside and is expected to house 480 new residents. So the development will also have a significant impact of park users’ peaceful enjoyment of the park and cricket matches played on the grounds.
The purpose of this crowdfunding is to help the local community raise funds to cover our legal costs to bring a claim for judicial review against the planning decision which approved the development on 12 May 2025.
Stratford Newtown Wesleyan Sports Ground is a 1.9ha size sports ground that can undoubtedly be utilised much more effectively for the benefit of local residents' and sports clubs health and well-being as it historically did since the 1920s. With the new increase in residents in mind, from the large scale housing developments that are already under construction in the local vicinity such as Little Gearies, Rushden Gardens, East Lodge and the Builder's Yard some 3-4 minutes walking distance from the sports ground, it is absolutely vital that we preserve this sports field for the benefit of our local community.
Please help save this invaluable green open space within our local community; donate whatever you can and let's get our voices heard!
