Save Barkingside's oldest sports ground and wildlife site!

Donation protected
Local residents have recently been informed that Barkingside's oldest Sports Ground, Stratford Newtown Wesleyan Sports Ground, is currently being considered as a housing development site to build and squeeze in over 110 high rise affordable flats and houses on a modest 1.9 hectares of land. This green field site is located adjacent to the Queen Elizabeth Park II, and directly surrounded by houses, the private gardens of which, back on to it.

The purpose of this crowdfunding is to help the local community raise funds so that we can seek specialist legal advice on:

(1) challenging Redbridge Council if it approves the planning application for the large scale development, and

(2) robust grounds of objection in response to the planning application to stop the destruction of Barkingside's oldest recreational sports ground - Stratford Newtown Wesleyan Sports Ground - also known as "land at the rear of Woodville Gardens") and save what is now a wonderful wildlife and ecological site.

Stratford Newtown Wesleyan Sports Ground is a relatively small area that can undoubtedly be utilised much more effectively for the benefit of local residents' health and well-being as it historically did since the 1960s. With the new increase in residents in mind, from the large scale housing developments that are already under construction in the local vicinity such as Little Gearies and the Builder's Yard some 3-4 minutes walking distance from the sports ground, it is absolutely vital that we preserve this sports field for the benefit of our local community.

"A network of attractive parks, open spaces, wildlife and Green Belt is one of Redbridge's strengths, providing leisure and recreational opportunities and varied habitats, making an important contribution to the quality of life of its residents" ~ Redbridge Council Local Plan
