Miles’ mom wants to move out of the county taking him away from his loving father, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. Funds will be used towards hiring an attorney.
Miles has also been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. If he leaves the county, he would have to be reenrolled and start over again in all of his services (ABA, speech therapy, occupational therapy and special ed preschool in a top rated school district). I can’t explain how detrimental this would be for his learning when he’s just starting to make progress.
His Mom does not want to move for work or for family. Her reasons don't seem to have anything to do with the best interests of Miles. Worst of all when I ask about her plans, I find that they are not at all well thought out. It is very worrying to me to be faced with such a disruption for Miles without very good reasoning and extremely detailed planning.
Back in February, despite my best efforts, I was awarded only 26% custody. Those of you who know me, know what a fantastic teacher I am and know how well I work with kids. I have an innate understanding of the learning process, and I feel that I help Miles far more than his mom can understand. But I worry that the courts won't be able to understand that either. I feel that the court won't take me seriously, and will give too much preference to his mother.
Because of the percentage of custody I’ve been awarded, I have an uphill battle ahead of me and my only hope is to hire a good attorney who will fight for Miles and his right to continued services, social interaction (which he needs for his condition) with his extended family who all love him, and to continue to be with his loving and mentoring father.
Attorneys are expensive, and good ones are even more so. Every little bit helps, thank you everyone for your consideration.
Staying Positive,
