My grandma, Agnes Cox, turned 97 on February 5th. She has had a hard life, living in Czechoslovakia during the war and leaving everything she knew at 19 to come the US and start a new life.

The last few years she’s landed in the hospital three times: heart failure, blood infection, and broken hip. This has led her to needing 24 hour care for the past 2.5 years. Because of this, she is in dire financial need.

Agnes has lived in her home since 1957. Due to the extreme cost of caregiving, she had to take out a reverse mortgage on her house. She is about to run out of money, causing her her to go into a Medicaid assisted living facility. The thought of this breaks my heart as she loves her home, especially summers sitting in the yard planting flowers and looking at birds. She has been saying how she can’t wait for summer to play in the backyard with her great grandsons.
