Save 1,000 Residents of Ungwan Bassa from Polluted Water

I am Christopher, the founder of Aqua Maya and I appreciate you taking the time to view our campaign. Stories like that of Ungwan Bassa hold a personal significance to me. Before moving to Massachusetts, nearly twenty years ago, I grew up in West Africa.

Growing up, I experienced first-hand, some of the difficulties of clean water access, especially in rural areas. I hope that you will be compelled to join our mission, to help alleviate some of this suffering.

Ungwan Bassa

Many residents of Ungwan Bassa depend on water from a distant polluted stream, to survive. The result? Constant illness of children and community members. Your generous donation to this campaign will fund a borehole providing clean water to over 1,000 Ungwan Bassa residents, for 20 - 30 years.

Location: Gwagwalada, Federal Capital Territory, Nigeria.

About Aqua Maya

Aqua Maya is a new 501(c)(3) nonprofit, in the US. We have taken on a bold mission - to provide clean water access to 20 million people in West Africa and reduce child mortality from related waterborne diseases.

Needless to say, this is a challenging mission, which can only be achieved with your support. All donations to Aqua Maya are tax deductible (US only).

Campaign Objectives & Breakdown of $10,000 Goal:

1a. Ungwan Bassa, Deshi Community Borehole

$2,000 - $3,000 (depending on required drill depth and similar technical factors)

This will cover the cost of:

- A geological survey of the land to be drilled.

- Contracting of heavy equipment for the drilling of a deep borehole well.

- Chemical treatment of the drilled borehole.

- Procurement of a hand-operated borehole pump system and its accessories.

- Concrete casing of the borehole and installation of the pump system.

- Concrete flooring of the perimeter around the borehole.

The community prefers a hand-operated borehole, as it's independent of electricity.

1b. Mobilization of community scouts and liaisons for this project

$600 - $800

Includes transportation, telecommunication, etc.

1c. Unforeseen direct expenses

2a. Community Water Project 2

$2,000 - $3000 (depending on required drill depth and similar technical factors)

Earmarked for the drilling of a borehole in another similarly desperate community, which you will be updated on, afterward. Details and videos will be provided.

2b. Mobilization of community scouts and liaisons for this project

$600 - $800

Includes transportation, telecommunication, etc.

2c. Unforeseen direct expenses

$200

3. Aqua Maya Capacity-building

$2,000

This includes:

a. Training and equipping of volunteer community liaisons and contractors, to physically scout nominated communities across West Africa, and coordinate with stakeholders. Includes transportation, telecommunication, etc.

b. Procurement of basic media capture equipment for effective community profiling.

c. Administrative operations/expenses

These are required elements of shortlisting communities best-suited for Aqua Maya's intervention.

Finally

We are honored by your willingness to support us in providing something so essential, but yet so elusive to many.

Any amount goes a long way. Even a $10 donation provides clean water for four people in Ungwan Bassa, for 20 to 30 years. If you would prefer to single-handedly adopt a community, by covering one full water project cost, that would also be fantastic - but no pressure.
