Farrington Family

Having exhausted every other possible financial resource, Shawn and Ja Nae Farrington seek help to meet urgent needs. Before Shawn’s recent long-term health problems, they were working towards modifying their small split entry home to better accommodate their special needs teenager who is both non-verbal and immobile.

Now, with Shawn’s extensive complications from diabetes, recent amputations, long term disability, complications from hyperbaric chamber treatments and loss of health insurance and forthcoming recovery period, those changes cannot wait. At 16, Christian can only move when in a large wheelchair which their current home cannot accommodate. Without income, they cannot move to a different home.

The older vehicles they drive and are still paying on, need work done on them and are not the best fit for Christian’s wheelchair or car seat situation.

Christian still requires around-the-clock care from his mother. He is completely dependent on his parents for all bathing, dressing and feeding. And now Shawn’s health limits his ability to work and his capacity to care for all of Christian’s many needs.

They urgently need to add a stair lift, widen doorways and modify the bathroom to accommodate Christian’s larger wheelchair and Shawn’s reduced mobility. They need larger equipment to assist in transferring their growing son.

When they married almost 32 years ago, Shawn and Ja Nae wanted to start a family right away. Ja Nae had always wanted to be a mother. She found joy in serving others and caring for those less fortunate. For almost 14 years they fought with disappointment after disappointment. Between failed attempts to conceive naturally and fertility medications and treatment, nothing worked.

When they chose adoption, they were met with even more disappointments as promised placements fell through. Finally, they were blessed with a 9-week-old perfect baby boy. All the heartache and expense had paved their path to him. However, after several months he was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. They embraced the challenge and showered him with all the love they had been saving up. For 16 years they have valiantly struggled and fought to provide Christian with everything he needs to be a happy, healthy child.

The Farrington’s are a wonderful example of unconditional love and human compassion. Their care and concern for Chrisitian has come with considerable financial and physical expense. Because of his extensive daily care requirements, they have always had to make due on a single income. Now they have not had that income and won’t for many months to come.
