Hi, my name is Josh, and I’m trying to bring a simple but powerful idea to life:
a public, backcountry sauna set deep in the mountains — free for anyone to use, respectfully.
The vision is a wood-fired barrel sauna built over a cold mountain stream that flows into a natural plunge pool. A place where skiers, hikers, bikers, and tired souls can warm up, reset, and reconnect — with their bodies, with nature, and with each other.
This isn’t a luxury project. It’s about well-being, community, and access.
Why a Sauna?
Saunas have been used for centuries to support physical recovery, mental health, and social connection. Cold exposure paired with heat has proven benefits for circulation, stress reduction, and resilience. Out here in the backcountry, those benefits matter even more.
There are very few places where this kind of experience is open, simple, and shared — especially in wild spaces.
What the Funds Will Go Toward
Your support will help cover:
• A durable barrel sauna structure
• A safe, efficient wood-fired stove
• Materials to elevate and anchor the sauna over a stream without damaging the environment
• Basic decking and a cold plunge pool area
• Transport of materials into the backcountry
• Environmental and safety considerations to keep the site low-impact and respectful
Every decision will prioritize minimal footprint, sustainability, and long-term durability.
Public Use & Respect
This sauna is intended for public use, guided by a simple honor system:
• Pack in, pack out
• Respect the land
• Respect others
• Leave it better than you found it
No reservations. No fees. Just shared responsibility.
Why I’m Asking for Help
Building something like this in a remote location isn’t cheap, and I can’t do it alone. If this idea resonates with you — if you believe wild places should also be places of care and restoration — I’d be incredibly grateful for your support.
Even if you never sit inside this sauna, you’ll be helping create a space where someone else can recover, breathe, and feel human again.
Thank you for reading, sharing, and supporting this idea.
See you out there.
— Josh
