UPDATE: Dear family, thanks to your immediate & overflowing generosity, we've met our first goal and funded next month's rent for Sarah (and the extra will mitigate the cost of the time she's been gone)! I can't wait to share your generosity with her. Continuing contributions will be allocated to both the below-mentioned grocery fund, and pressingly, a deep-cleaning of the Deaver home. As many of you know, open heart surgeries require a pristine environment for recovery and to ward off possible infection. The options Danielle has priced out range from $200-400 dollars, with the most reputable services on the higher end. We hope to include the house cleaning gift with the rent check tomorrow! Dear family, as many of you know, Sarah Deaver's father John recently had an unexpected heart attack. She flew out to California immediately to be with her family through the followup. After an angioplasty to determine the cause of the heart attack, it was determined that bypass surgery was the appropriate response. The surgery went well -- John's doctor said that the lower part of his heart showed mass improvement once the quadruple bypass was complete -- but they've had to do a second surgery because of blood clotting in cavities in the left side of the heart. No matter what, the recovery period is going to be lengthy and difficult, so Sarah is going to stay in California for about a month to help her parents during the recuperation.
There are several areas of need that we'd love to help Sarah and her family cover -- the greatest of which is the lost housing cost from Sarah's time away.
Sarah has been looking for a way to fill her room for August while she is in California, but as yet hasn't found a roommate (and paid in full for July when she was only in NYC for two days). Sarah's rent is $800/mo. If we can raise that $800 or a little bit more, we'll be able to cover a large part of the loss from her time away without the difficulty and exhaustion of finding the right fit for an immediate short-term rental. Danielle Guido has been heading up the search to alleviate the stress on Sarah, but it'd be wonderful if we could release them both to focus on health.
If we fundraise above Sarah's housing costs, the funds will go towards grocery delivery for the Deaver family. Sarah reports that they've been so overwhelmed that getting out of the house to pick up food supplies hasn't been realistic, and obviously, literal physical nourishment is one of our greatest needs in stressful circumstances!
