SAOL Project

LIZZIE IS THREE AND ATTENDS OUR CRECHE. HER BRAIN WORKS DIFFERENTLY TO OURS; AND SHE NEEDS SPECIALIST HELP TO NAVIGATE THE WORLD. UNFORTUNATELY, SHE IS NOT SCHEDULED FOR DIAGNOSTIC ASSESSMENT FOR ANOTHER 2 YEARS. WE’RE RAISING MONEY FOR A PRIVATE ASSESSMENT SO THAT SHE GETS THE SUPPORTS SHE NEEDS ASAP

Lizzie, (that’s not her real name) is one of the children who attends our creche in SAOL Project, Amiens St., Dublin 1. She comes from a loving family, but they have had to manage a lot of tragedy and it is Lizzie’s extended family that care for her and her two brothers. Her brothers are doing ok under the difficult circumstances, but Lizzie will need specialized support as it is clear at her young age that Lizzie has additional needs. She is an active beautiful child who is also non-verbal and so can get distressed easily as the people in her life have not found a way to communicate with her and so we don’t know what is wrong when she becomes upset and overwhelmed. She is not sleeping at night and becomes distressed with new noises or different stimuli that the other children in the creche do not even notice. We know that Lizzie needs help and we are trying to find a way to make this little girls world a world where she can thrive happily and free from distress and upset. Lizzie needs to be assessed for the people in her world to help her and create a brighter future for her.
We cannot use our state funds to pay for Lizzie to be assessed, but we can try to raise some money for her. It will cost about €2500 to have her assessed (for the full spectrum of tests) to find out how her brain works and what she most needs to fully reach her potential.

Any extra money raised on this page will go towards the purchase of specialist equipment for Lizzie but we are in need of just enough to get her assessed and we can get by after that! Lizzie is three years old; waiting until she is five before having a diagnosis that will then get her the supports, she needs means wasting two years of her young life where she is not getting the correct supports. Two years in a little person’s development is a very long time. Two years of the people in her world not understanding what she needs and how we can best help her. Two years is two years too long. We need to make Lizzie’s world brighter and better, Lizzie deserves to be understood and supported and you can help us do this, make a real difference for this little girl.
