Cape Town, South Africa.
2020 has been a rough year and the financial consequences are ongoing and for this reason we bring this plead to everyone who can and wants to donate so we can find a little light at the end of the year.
A little about The Heather Anne Project and our funding plea:
We want to put menstrual health on the agenda - and we believe that sustainability is the only way forward. That is why we have started a local manufacturing of re-usable cotton pads for our sisters in need. We need funding for purchasing the fabric and to pay our local seamstress. Any donation, big or small, is highly appreciated and will help a great deal!
The project started in October 2019 and has since received a lot of attention from large international companies working with sustainable period products such as OrganiCup and Blümchen StoffWindeln. We have handed out silicone menstrual cups, reusable cotton pads and educated the youth about the importance of menstrual health.
Our vision is to create a safe space for every young girl in Vrygrond and the surrounding communities, where they can come and seek help, guidance or just a talk with a woman who can relate to the problems of being a young one. Period and personal hygiene should not be a taboo anywhere and we believe in standing together as a community and rise above.
A little about our community:
In our main community of Vrygrond there are no official counts of the amount of inhabitants, however it is estimated that around 6000 women live here. Vrygrond is 0.82 square kilometres and the total population is estimated to be 13.222 people. The biggest age group is between 20-44 years old and one of the major issues in this area is teenage pregnancy. Everyday thousands of people are struggling to make ends meet in this area, and the limited financial resources has the unfortunate
consequence that many young girls and daughters don’t have access to basic personal hygiene products and toiletries that they need during period. This furthermore leads to them being sent home from school due to bad smell and other inconvenience every month
Proper menstrual care for everyone is vital for equal education!
Merry Christmas and thank you in advance
