Like every dog that gets pulled into a rescue, Leo has a backstory filled with abuse and suffering. His story in particular is especially heartbreaking.
At the age of 5 months old, in the country of Kuwait, Leo was beaten, run over by a car, and thrown in a dumpster to die. At only 5 months of age, he already knew so much pain, so much cruelty. He was lucky, though, because he was saved from that dumpster by some incredibly compassionate people. He was taken to the vet, had his wounds cared for, and was placed in the shelter where his rescuers began looking for placement in the U.S. This past August, Leo was brought over from Kuwait and placed in the most amazing foster home anyone could ask for.
Fast forward to now.
Leo's horrific past has left him with demons that he is still trying to work through. Combine this with probable arthritic pain from his past injury and it has made adjusting to life in the United States especially difficult. He may have left that old life behind in Kuwait, but he brought along all the fear and mistrust. We have done everything we could to get him to a place where he could be adopted. However, he needs the expertise and an environment that we just can't provide for him in RDR. I have spoke to Meredith of Paws Unite People who has vast experience in not only working with international dogs, but specifically with his breed. She has agreed to take him and to provide the environment, decompression, and training he needs to get him to where he needs to be. Our hope is that one day soon he can be adopted into a home with is own family.
In order to do this, we need help. $2000 worth of help.
Paws Unite People is a non-profit rescue that is just like us. They are constantly under financial strain. I cannot ask them to take Leo on without financially covering his stay there. The money we raise will cover his kennel space there plus the cost of caring for Leo during his stay. Meredith has helped NUMEROUS rescue groups who have found themselves in situations such as this. I am beyond grateful that she has agreed to help Leo. We know that this is his best chance of crushing his demons.
