Meet Kobe...

Kobe is one of *those* puppies.  U know what I mean...the purebred, beautifully marked, sweetest disposition kind of puppy that breeders make a killing off of.  The one where people will spend thousands to purchase without thinking twice.   "It's worth it!" they will say, "Just look at him!!!"   But that's where it ends.  

The dollar sign they put on him was for his looks, for WHAT he is - a purebred Pomeranian.  It was not for HIM, though.  He did not go to the vet for his puppy visits.  He did not get his vaccines.  He was not neutered. And when he fell off the couch last week, his family waited 4 days to bring him into a vet.   Four.  Days.  X-rays revealed he has a fractured radius and ulna of his right front leg.  

They were given the only solution there is: surgical repair with an estimate  between $2000-$3000.  But to them, that was NOT the only solution. They had a better idea - they opted to have him euthanized.  So at 7 months of age, this puppy was going to die because his cuteness and bloodline was worth more than his life.  Of course the vet refused and they surrendered him into their care.  That is how he got to us....

And this is why we are asking for donations.  His vet bill immediately became ours.  In addition to this surgery, he needs all routine vaccines, heart worm test, neuter, microchip etc.  That is on top of the $2000-$3000 estimate.  So during the most financially stressful time of the year, I am asking u to stretch urself even further.  I am asking u to donate whatever u can, even if in ur mind it seems small and pointless.  To me, it's not.  And it's certainly not to Kobe.

I'm asking u to help a dog u do not know, do not love, and have no financial responsibility towards.   And I'm asking u to do this during Christmas time.  But we, the animal advocates, must show that although those people paid thousands for him, his life doesn't have a dollar sign.  His life is worth far, far more.

Like every dog that gets pulled into a rescue, Leo has a backstory filled with abuse and suffering.  His story in particular is especially heartbreaking.  

At the age of 5 months old, in the country of Kuwait, Leo was beaten, run over by a car, and thrown in a dumpster to die.  At only 5 months of age, he already knew so much pain, so much cruelty.  He was lucky, though, because he was saved from that dumpster by some incredibly compassionate people.  He was taken to the vet, had his wounds cared for, and was placed in the shelter where his rescuers began looking for placement in the U.S.  This past August, Leo was brought over from Kuwait and placed in the most amazing foster home anyone could ask for.

Fast forward to now.  

Leo's horrific past has left him with demons that he is still trying to work through.  Combine this with probable arthritic pain from his past injury and it has made adjusting to life in the United States especially difficult.  He may have left that old life behind in Kuwait, but he brought along all the fear and mistrust.  We have done everything we could to get him to a place where he could be adopted.  However, he needs the expertise and an environment that we just can't provide for him in RDR.  I have spoke to Meredith of Paws Unite People who has vast experience in not only working with international dogs, but specifically with his breed.  She has agreed to take him and to provide the environment, decompression, and training he needs to get him to where he needs to be.   Our hope is that one day soon he can be adopted into a home with is own family.  

In order to do this, we need help.  $2000 worth of help.

Paws Unite People is a non-profit rescue that is just like us.  They are constantly under financial strain.  I cannot ask them to take Leo on without financially covering his stay there.  The money we raise will cover his kennel space there  plus the cost of caring for Leo during his stay.  Meredith has helped NUMEROUS rescue groups who have found themselves in situations such as this.  I am beyond grateful that she has agreed to help Leo.  We know that this is his best chance of crushing his demons.

This is Diamond.

5 days ago she woke up believing it to be any other day - whatever that entailed for her.  Within hours, her world exploded - and she found herself like u see in the video. Her family, her home - all of it was gone.  When the person who surrendered her to Philly ACCT walked away to leave, Diamond fell apart.  How could she not?  The constant noise, a non-stop stream of panic, of sadness, of distress.   She became a part of that - joining into the mass number of dogs that are sitting in that shelter, praying for a savior.  

 Witnesses who were there when she was surrendered - and saw all the interactions - felt that she was NOT a found stray as this person claimed, but that it was their OWN dog.  This person felt that their best and only option was to surrender her to ACCT, which is running at overcapacity.  Once the mammary mass and baseball size tumor that is ravaging her uterus was found, that's when Diamond's world was about to end.  About 48 hours after she was surrendered, Diamond was timestamped to die.  She was going to leave this world petrified, sick, surrounded by strangers.  She was going to leave this world begging to LIVE.

So many amazing people networked to save her.  So many people fought for her.  And it was 100% due to the love and mercy shown by total strangers that made it possible.  When the multiple videos of her trembling in her run were posted, it sparked a explosion of compassion.  People offered to foster, to donate, to transport....all of it needed.  But we are just beginning...

Diamond has cloudy bloody drainage coming from her vagina. She was not spayed so we are fearful that this is uterine cancer. As I said earlier, she also has a mammary mass.  Her appointment with our vet is tonight (5/9) at 6pm.  As soon as we know fully what we are dealing with, I will update everyone.  I don't know what her prognosis is, but I will tell u that we will do everything we can to give her the longest life with QUALITY.  This is where we need ur help.

This is Soma.

Sick, exhausted, starving....she crawled into someone's yard and found the most furthest spot she could find, curled up into a ball, and there she stayed.  The look on her face says it all.  She was completely defeated.

She didn't cry.  She had no more strength for that. 

She didn't beg for food.  Her hunger had become a constant ache - something that became her "norm".

She didn't scratch at the door to come in.  Why would she?  This world has told her that she was garbage, that she was not worthy of anything.  

She was content to lay in the dirt, forgotten in the corner of a yard.  

But that was not to be her fate.  The person who found her called her neighbor, Leah Ann Frost, who just happens to be in rescue.  It is Leah Ann who would turn out to be her savior.  In that moment that she was discovered, her life went from dismal to hopeful.  However her fight has only just begun. 

Her skin is ravaged with infection - bacterial and fungal.  She is missing about 80% of her fur.  She was covered - literally infested - with fleas resulting in her being anemic.  Wounds pepper her body - their origins unknown - each one telling her story.  

Last night her foster moms went to bed with Soma sleeping on the floor in the room that they created for her decompresion.  She did not lay on the beds that were placed down for her.  It's common that we see this.  They don't know what a "bed" is.  It's gut wrenching  - something so simple as a bed - and they dare not lay it.  "That can't possibly be for me....".  By the morning, she had crawled onto one of those "forbidden" beds and was fast asleep.  I think she finally realized what was happening.  I think she finally breathed that deep sigh of relief.....crawled onto her bed....and slept the deep peaceful sleep of those that know they are now finally safe.  

Please consider helping us continue to fight for Soma.  There is nothing but promise for her from this point forward.  We just need to get her through the neglect and abuse that has taken it's toll on her.

Two seniors - brother and sister - both 16 yrs old.  

Both horribly neglected for years, if not their entire lives.  

Both surrendered to Philly ACCT by their owner, where due to their medical issues,  they were timestamped to die tonight at 8pm.  

Their lives were going to end - not naturally in their sleep or being held by their loving humans as they took their last breath - but by a needle in a euthanasia room in a kill shelter.  They were going to die alone, scared, and confused.  A fitting end to a horrible life.

But because of so many incredible people, these 2 innocent lives were spared.  Today, instead of walking to their death, they were carried out of that shelter to freedom.  To a new life full of hope, love, and compassion.  Due to the condition they were in, they were taken immediately to our vet and dropped off by our volunteer, Tracie Mower.  

I was able to go see them.

What hit me first was the stench.  As I walked into the isolation room at my vet's office, it hit me like a punch.  The smell of infection and filth was overpowering.  I cringed while approaching the first cage - knowing already that what I was going to see was going to be bad. Very, very bad.

Snooks was the first I went to.  Almost completely blind and deaf, he anxiously spun around and around in his cage - not knowing which way was front - desperate to find a way out.  He continually bumped into the back of the cage, frantically pawing at it.  It was heartbreaking.  Immediately I saw his back, his hind end and his tail.  Or rather the bloody, infected mess that they had become.  The skin so raw and excoriated, chewed bloody from the itching, was the main source of of the rancid smell.  I reached in and gently touched his back.  When he turned around to greet me, I looked into his cataract filled eyes - at the green pus crusted and oozing from both.  I saw his paws - also chewed bloody - with nails so long and caked in feces, they looked like talons.  His fur so matted that he will need to be completely shaved down.  Despite this, he nuzzled his head against the front of the cage, hungry for attention. Desperate for human touch.

Dottie was next.  She sat frozen in place with only her eyes following me.  I slowly approached but the second she started to growl softly, I stopped and spoke to her.  To say that she is petrified is a complete understatement.  All that I could see is the milky white cataract of her left eye and her matted fur.  There was no getting any closer.  

Snooks medical exam showed severe bilateral ear infections, bilateral eye infections, dry eye, horrific skin infection, soft heart murmur, with mild anemia.  He will be on numerous antibiotic ear drops, eye drops, medicated shampoo, and antibiotics/antifungals for his skin.  Our vet anticipates him needing medical therapy for awhile.  Some good news is that his 4DX was negative as was his skin scrape for mange.  Other than the anemia and an elevated white count, his bloodwork looked good (liver, kidney, and thyroid functions were all normal).

Dottie, they couldn't go near at all. When they tried, she literally screamed.  Not barked....screamed.  She became so upset that she bit her tongue.  So they will let her decompress tonight and tomorrow they will sedate her to do her exam, bloodwork, clean her ears, cut her nails and shave her completely down.  We will know more about her medical condition tomorrow after this is all done.

The vet bill for just today and tomorrow will be close to $1000, if not more.  (I will give an exact amount tomorrow).  That is not including all of the medications and shampoos that they will be discharged with.  Nor does it include the ongoing care they will need - follow-ups, med refills, etc - that they will need.  And this is where we need ur help.

So many people were involved in saving these two - from networking, transporting, offers to foster and donate....but it doesn't end now that they are safe.  Actually, we have only just begun.  

And so has their new life.  Today is Day 1 of hopefully many many more to follow.

This is Rocky - saved from the streets of Tunisia.  Like nearly all dogs who are saved from overseas, Rocky came with a deep fear of strangers.  In his country, strangers meant torture, pain, and suffering.

Rocky was officially brought into Rescue Dogs Rock Animal Rescue in Nov of 2017. Immediately we had our behaviorists begin working with our foster to help Rocky in overcoming his fears.  From then until the time he was adopted in Apr, he made huge improvements and was doing wonderful.  The search for his forever family included the stipulation that numerous slow meet and greets would need to be done along with continued behavioral training once he was adopted.  Rocky was adopted to a couple - and without getting into the dramatic details which would do nothing to help get Rocky to where he has to go - who did not continue his training.  Rocky was exposed to new people without the proper guidance and he unfortunately bit on 3 different occasions.  For this reason, they want to return Rocky.  Dogs with bite histories such as this cannot be adopted out from rescues such as RDR.  We do not have the facility nor fosters who have the proper environment and training to take

Rocky now has the opportunity to go to Paws Unite People in NY, an intensive rehabilitation center.  The cost to get him there is $850.
