San Francisco Community Fridge Fund

The SF Community Fridge Project is a food equity initiative created during the pandemic by SF residents. We took inspiration and guidance from the community fridges established during the pandemic in Oakland and Brooklyn, and are a part of the legacy of community fridges established by different grassroots groups across the country. Our intention is to support and amplify the work of existing community-led, grassroots food equity organizations in neighborhoods of the city most impacted by structural racism and classism in San Francisco. To this end, each fridge site will be operated in collaboration with different organizations of this kind to ensure that the fridges are truly valuable to the communities they serve.

Our first fridge and pantry will be located in the Mission District at Adobe Books (3130 24th St, San Francisco, CA 94110). At this location, we will offer culturally relevant food for the community, along with diapers, infant formula, dog food, masks, hand sanitizer, and more.

We are asking for $2,000 to cover the costs of: purchasing materials to build a parklet in front of Adobe Books, where the fridge and pantry will be housed; purchasing clear-front, industrial-grade fridges; delivery/moving the fridges; and incidental operating costs.

Thank you so much for reading, and supporting the SF Community Fridge Project!
