Sam's 30th Fundraiser - Support Magdalene Home
Tax deductible
Please help me celebrate my 30th birthday by supporting the Magdalene Home!
The Magdalene Home gives homeless teen girls and young women who are pregnant, parenting, or considering adoption a safe and supervised place to live. It is one of the only homes of its kind in Southern Oregon and has dramatically improved the lives of over 500 young mothers and their babies since opening in 2001. They provide a safe and nurturing home for homeless pregnant or parenting young mothers and their babies as they work towards a brighter future.
As one of two shelters of this type for homeless parenting or pregnant teens in Southern Oregon, they receive referrals from Jackson, Josephine, Curry, Douglas, and Klamath counties. Their dedicated housemothers provide individual guidance to each girl by removing barriers and helping her achieve goals in the areas of physical/emotional well-being, education, job training, parenting education, life skills, and healthy relationships.
Right now, Magdalene Home is able to house up to 5 residents at a time, and each girl has her own room that she shares with her child. Last year, Magdalene Home housed 16 mothers and 17 babies. They provide full wrap-around services including getting the girls enrolled in SNAP, HUD and state permanent housing assistance, getting their GED, etc. They also connect the girls with important mental health and counseling services, as almost of mothers who come to Magdalene Home are survivors of domestic violence or abuse. Most importantly, Magdalene Home provides 24/7 supervision and services. This allows the mothers to keep their children with them if CPS is involved, even if they have other children with them already. Keeping mothers and their children united is of the utmost importance in this program.
While many of the donations will go to providing important tangible items for moms and babies (diapers, baby clothes, toys, bottles, kitchen items, etc.), donations from this fundraiser will primarily go to supporting essential services, compensation for the house mothers, as well as medical services, transportation, and other services needed. The goal is to provide mom and baby everything they need to succeed for the long run. To me, these services are what sets Magdalene Home apart and provide a meaningful family environment for these expecting and new mothers.
Please join me in raising money to benefit Magdalene Home, so that they may continue and expand their services to young mothers in my community.
Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me!
