Hello, my name is Samantha and I'm raising funds for the community group that I work for - Wythenshawe Good Neighbours (WGN).
WGN is a not-for-profit community interest company, based in south Manchester, and works with and for older Wythenshawe residents.
The WGN ethos is to promote a positive attitude to ageing, volunteering and contributing to the local community. Our group supports older residents to help them to benefit from the services, facilities and opportunities that Wythenshawe has to offer them - enjoying a fuller and more resilient life, as a result.
WGN has around 200 Members, the majority of whom live alone and are aged 70+. Our group offers services, activities and support to combat social isolation in later life. These include providing:
- resilience resources
- a Volunteer Drivers Scheme to help our Members get from a - b locally
- coffee gatherings and a Community Lunch (sometimes joined by professional guest speakers)
- special events
- and the ever-popular summer and autumn day trips.
Our organisation turned 15 in the autumn of 2025. Still in its 15th year, I am helping WGN to raise at least £1,000 towards a summer and an autumn coach trip. Our Members will have the chance to vote for their preferred destinations! They are currently voting between Blackpool and Llandudno for a seaside summer outing.
We know from speaking to our Members that they really appreciate the chance to enjoy a sociable change of scene as part of a group outing. It wouldn't be possible for most of our Members to organise their own days out e.g. to the seaside or to a Christmas shopping destination.
"Any trips - we'll be there!" WGN Member
As with lots of things, the cost of coach travel is increasing. Therefore, I'm raising funds to enable us to subsidise the coach costs for the day trips.
Huge, heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported me.
I want to give you all an important update about my Great Manchester Run challenge.
I took part in the event on Sunday 31 May. I was really enjoying the atmosphere (as pictured at the 4k mark). Unfortunately, after completing half the course, I experienced a medical episode. This resulted in a trip to A&E and an overnight stay in hospital. I have been recovering - hence the delay in getting this message to everyone.
I will completely understand if people would like their donations to be returned. If this is the case, please telephone our office number. It's not possible to add it here, due to GoFundMe privacy settings, but you will find it by internet searching: 'office number for Wythenshawe Good Neighbours'.
Whatever you prefer, thank you for your generous support for Wythenshawe Good Neighbours.
Best wishes,
Samantha
