Samantha Butt- Macy's Great American Marching Band

Hello, my name is Samantha Butt and I am a senior at Lecanto High School in Lecanto, FL aspiring to raise money to march in the Macy’s Great American Marching Band in New York, on Thanksgiving Day. This is an incredible, exclusive, once in a lifetime opportunity that I am very grateful and excited to have; however I must raise the funds to participate.

The Macy’s Great American Marching Band is strictly created for the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and high school musicians from all 50 states may audition. Participation is selected based on individual marching and instrument performance, and there are only a select number of open spots for each instrument and high school.

To my surprise, my director asked me to audition a few weeks ago, and I was absolutely ecstatic and shocked. I completed my audition, and to my greatest surprise— I actually got in!! I couldn’t believe I actually got in— just weeks before having to raise the money and fly to New York City!

I have been in band since 6th grade, and joining has been one of the best decisions of my life. I don’t know where or what type of person I would be without it. I started off playing trumpet as an insanely shy, unconfident, and timid kid, to now being 1st chair trumpet section leader. Looking back I never would have thought I would be where I am today, and I am insanely grateful to have something that I enjoy that has also helped me grow.

Music plays a huge role in my life; it’s something I cherish and don’t think I could live without. Having participated in Marching, Concert, and Jazz band the past 4 years of high school has helped me immensely in growing my confidence, talent, passion, and friends.

This occasion is an unparalleled opportunity for me to continue something I love, and any donations towards this means the world to me. I am truly grateful for my supportive parents, family, and friends, who have already helped me immensely. I want to say a true, genuine, and sincere thank you to my family, friends, and anyone who contributes toward my goal. I wholeheartedly appreciate any support towards this insane opportunity, and it is an experience I will cherish every moment of and never forget.
