What a journey!

This adoption has been years in the making. Bob and I started talking about adoption after trying to grow our family biologically for a few years without result. However, adoption wasn't a second choice, it was actually a relief! The thought of carrying another pregnancy as a Type 1 diabetic myself was stressful. Adoption is also a part of our family as my sister has adopted twice, domestically and internationally. Molly has such a bond with her cousins, and she's so eager to be a big sister herself. We have seen first hand the love that comes from adoption, and it's incredible!

We started researching agencies and saving as much as we could. We got through the mass of paperwork, the worries of the home study, dove into another mass of paperwork as we joined a national consultant agency to spread our names across the U.S., and sincerely have been overwhelmed for the last 1.5 years. As we got into the depths of adoption, we quickly realized we had not saved enough. We were told from our consultant agency the average price to expect for match and placement of our future child ranged from $50,000-$60,000. We had already paid nearly $10,000 in all the pre-placement fees. Talk sucker punch to the gut. We researched adopting through the foster system, but we chose not to because the goal of fostering is to reunite those children to their families. It was not fair to anyone for us to walk into fostering (a more affordable adoption path) expecting permanency. Our next option was to refinance our home and pull out some equity. That money was earmarked for our futures, but we have had to make this happen to grow our family. That's why we need your help. This situation has pushed us out of our comfort zone in ALL the ways, and asking for money feels very vulnerable.

At first, I was shocked that the cost of adoption is so high (I still am processing these emotions), but when we take a step back and realize we are helping lives in a very tangible way... our perspective has shifted. The price of this adoption directly helps the agencies provide a more stable life for the birth mother. This price helps a birth family break cycles, find hope and stability for a better future for their child. This price helps bring our baby home. That's worth every stinking penny! However you can help, we appreciate it more than we can ever express. Every time we see our future child's face, your gift will fill our hearts with love. God is good and has a plan for our family.
