Sam & Ben need to hire a wheelchair accessible vehicle!
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Abi and I am Mom to Sam and Ben. Sam and Ben both have Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a terminal muscle waisting condition that currently has no treatment or cure.
We were due to receive our new WAV (wheelchair accessible vehicle) on the 18th June. Unfortunately there has been a recall on the car through Ford. Which means the vehicle can not be taxed or delivered until further notice. I have exhausted every avenue through the dealer and motability and we are unable to get any help. Our only options are to wait and the boys to continue with their lives on hold or hire a vehicle until ours is ready. The hire of a vehicle which is suitable for Sam and Bens needs is £500 a week. We have no idea how long we will need to hire the vehicle for. Hopefully it’s only 2-6 weeks.
Sam and Ben have had their lives on hold whilst waiting for this vehicle. Their manual chairs are so uncomfortable and do not offer the correct support for them so they have not wanted to leave the house to go on trips or visit family. July is a big month for us we have lots of appointments and things planned that the boys need their power chairs for. Sam finishes primary school in July and has leavers parties planned that he wants to attend in his power chair. He deserves that independence. As a mom I couldn’t wait to spend this next month taking Sam to and from primary school for the last times. I just feel like the rugs been pulled from under us and we’ve been left to pick up the pieces with no where to turn yet again.
We would be eternally grateful if anyone would be able to help us with raising some money towards the hire of a WAV until ours eventually arrives. If we raise enough and there is any left over the money will be donated to Duchenne UK.
