Meals4Hope serves more than 500 children, pregnant and lactating women in its Nutritional Recovery Centers.
A malnourished child may suffer from irreversible physical and mental delays. When malnutrition becomes acute, the child's life is at risk and requires immediate treatment and urgent medical attention. This type of malnutrition is the one suffered by thousands of children in Venezuela, where deaths of children due to malnutrition are reported every day.
Meals4Hope is a volunteer-powered organization who encourages community participation. They develop feeding and nutritional recovery programs for children from communities of extreme poverty in 11 regions of Venezuela.
Meals4Hope seeks to protect children by fighting hunger and malnutrition.
One of these programs is the Nutritional Recovery Center in the community of Brisas del Sur in San Félix, Bolívar State, Venezuela.
Bolívar is one of the states in Venezuela where the humanitarian emergency is most acute, and where the highest number of deaths of children with malnutrition have been reported. In the Guaiparo hospital, the most important in the area, more than 80 children died from malnutrition or diseases associated with it in 2017. Many children arrive at the hospital when there is very little what medical staff can do. The Centers for Nutritional Recovery in the communities help to prevent this situation, detecting the risk and attending to the children before severe malnutrition is reached.
The Brisas del Sur Nutritional Recovery Center serves an average of 250 children under the age of 12 and 50 nursing mothers. It also offers nutrition and health workshops to the community to train families in the proper nutrition of their children and the possibilities of the limited food they may have access to in Venezuela.
The center's monthly budget ranges around $ 1,600, with generous donations of nutritional supplements from producing companies. However, the hyperinflation and economic crisis that Venezuela is currently going through add a high rate of variation to costs.

Cuando la desnutrición se vuelve aguda, la vida del niño está en riesgo y requiere tratamiento inmediato y atención médica urgente. Este tipo de desnutrición es la que están padeciendo miles de niños en Venezuela, donde se reportan, cada día, muertes de niños por desnutrición.
Meals4hope - Alimentando Esperanza, con trabajo voluntario y participación de la comunidad, desarrolla programas de alimentación y recuperación nutricional de niños de comunidades de extrema pobreza en 11 regiones de Venezuela. Busca proteger a los niños combatiendo el hambre y la desnutrición.
Uno de estos programas es el Centro de Recuperación Nutricional en la comunidad de Brisas del Sur en San Félix, Estado Bolívar, Venezuela.
Bolívar es uno de los estados de Venezuela donde la emergencia humanitaria es más aguda, y donde mayor número de muertes de niños con desnutrición se han reportado. En el hospital Guaiparo, el más importante de la zona, en 2017 murieron más de 80 niños por desnutrición o enfermedades asociadas a ella. Muchos niños llegan al hospital cuando ya es muy poco lo que el personal médico puede hacer. Los Centros de Recuperación Nutricional en las comunidades ayudan a prevenir esta situación, detectando el riesgo y atendiendo a los niños antes de que se llegue a desnutrición severa.
El Centro de Recuperación Nutricional Brisas del Sur atiende a un promedio de 250 niños menores de 12 años y 50 madres lactantes. También ofrece talleres de nutrición y salud a la comunidad para formar a las familias en la adecuada nutrición de sus hijos y en las posibilidades de los limitados alimentos a los que pesen tener acceso en Venezuela en esos momentos.
El presupuesto mensual del centro oscila alrededor de los $1,600, contando con generosas donaciones de suplementos nutricionales de las empresas productoras. Sin embargo, la hiperinflación y crisis económica que atraviesa Venezuela añaden un alto índice de inestabilidad a los costos.
