Salt Spring Elementary Inclusive Playground

Dear Salt Spring community,

Thanks to a major grant from the provincial government, we will be getting a new and inclusive playground THIS SUMMER. It will be located at Salt Spring Elementary, but it will truly be a place that will serve our entire community.

Whether you play here with your grandkids on the weekend, whether you played here as a child, or whether you have kids yourself, we know what an important gathering place and social hub of connection this space is.

Our current SSE playground is aging, and we believe our children– all children– deserve a safe, engaging, and inspiring space to play and grow. This new and inclusive playground will be designed to serve as many kids as possible, including those of different ages, physical abilities, and sensory needs. It will also be safe and sturdy enough to meet the needs of our rapidly growing population of younger families. (No more splinters!)

We’re grateful for the funding that has already been committed: the Provincial Government PEP Grant, as well as generous contributions from the Salt Spring Island Foundation, The Raffi Foundation, The Lions Club, CRD, and MidIsland Co-Op.

However, even this significant funding isn’t enough! Playgrounds are staggeringly expensive, and we only get one shot to make this one the best it can be. We are hoping for a space that is not just functional but FUN, and we need your support for that to happen.

The playground we build this summer will be the one we have for decades to come– so let’s make it a good one for all of us.

The clock is ticking! We have a short window of time to raise funds to make this playground truly special, and we need your help. We're asking for our community to pitch in and make something we can all be proud of. Every contribution will make a difference.
