Hi, my name is Terry Cullinane, and I’m organizing this fundraiser on behalf of a dear family in urgent need of help. Their 2-year-old daughter, Safina, one of a pair of twins, recently suffered a devastating hemorrhagic stroke caused by a rare condition called cerebrofacial venous metameric syndrome.
Safina has lost sight in one eye and has severe difficulty moving one side of her body. Her family is now in a race against time to get her life-saving neurosurgery scheduled for August 14th at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford, performed by Dr. Steinberg, a renowned neurosurgeon.
This heartbreaking journey began when Safina was diagnosed with cerebrofacial venous metameric syndrome, a rare vascular disorder affecting the brain. A cavernous malformation in her brainstem (pons) caused the stroke, robbing this vibrant toddler of vision in one eye and partial mobility. The prescribed medication, Vijoice (alpelisib) by Novartis, is part of her ongoing care plan but medication alone is not enough.
To save her life and preserve her future, Safina must undergo neurosurgery. Her parents, facing this medical crisis with strength and courage, are doing everything they can but the financial strain is overwhelming.
They are a family of six, and traveling from their home in the Seattle area to Stanford in California is far beyond their means. The cost of transportation, temporary lodging (Airbnb/hotel), meals, and time off work is staggering. To support them, the children's grandparents are flying in from Japan to help care for the other children while the parents focus on Safina’s recovery.
We are aiming to raise $50,000 to support Safina and her family through this critical time. Funds will go toward:
- Travel costs to Stanford (by car from Seattle)
- Lodging near the hospital (Airbnb/hotel expenses)
- Daily living expenses while parents are away from work
- Medical-related costs not covered by insurance
- Support for caring for the other children during this period
Every dollar will go directly toward helping Safina get the care she desperately needs, and easing the burden on a family already carrying so much.
Please consider donating any amount helps, no matter how small. And if you’re unable to give, simply sharing this campaign with your community can make a world of difference.
We are deeply grateful for your love, support, and generosity. With your help, we can give Safina the fighting chance she deserves.
From the bottom of our hearts,
Thank you.
Warmly,
Terry Cullinane
