SafeWalks App To Keep NYC Community Safe

Donation protected
SafeWalks was established in January 2021 as an initiative by community to help protect fellow community members feeling unsafe while commuting  by offering a presence in escorting them to and from subway stations. It was born after the brutal attacks against multiple women at the Morgan L Subway Station.

To date we have provided dozens of SafeWalks, mostly around the Bushwick area but demand has rapidly risen in light of amplified attacks within greater New York City, resulting in deaths.  Being that NYC is a city of 10million , use of an instagram page for dispatching safewalks and handling both requests and dispatches can only go so far. We urgently seek to develop a multi plattform app that will greatly impact and change not only ability to expand the initiative wider, but also faster, while building a community around keeping each other safe.

An App of this magnitude ( multi -platform compatible , multi-integration, geo location tracking, dispatch, social networking, and more does not come cheap . We researched and reached out to various companies/sites to get quotes and the figure came to roughly $210,000 on the conservative side. ) To date, we have been funding all our efforts out of own pocket but at this moment as the greater City needs this initiative most, we are reaching out to you, community , to help with anything small you can.  It is needed urgently. These funds will enable us to engage an established entity with present teams who have had experience in building such apps.

The option to look for different individuals with various skills to slowly build a team sounds very cost effective and appealing, but that would take a very long time to build and align, which cannot work at this moment because the efforts we are responding to are mostly potentially life-threatening and ongoing.

In the meantime, we are continuing to use the current tools we have to the best of our ability to help community in need, and we are currently in process of setting up to SafeWalks expansions; One for ChinaTown, Manhattan, in light of the  attacks against elderly Asians due to lies about Covid-19, as well as a 125th Street, Harlem Safewalk, in light of recent brutal attacks on women there. We are also looking to expand within our local areas of Bushwick into greater Brooklyn as the attacks are still occurring, more brutal each time.

Thank you in advance for anything small you can contribute. Below are some media articles about our efforts.
