My name is Torri, and I am asking for help with an urgent emergency housing situation for myself and my children.

I was recently selected for public housing, which felt like the breakthrough we had been waiting for. Unfortunately, I was told that even though I have been selected, there are currently no units available.

We have to be out of our current apartment by May 29th, and right now, we do not have a stable place to go.

I have called every agency here in the city of Richmond trying to find emergency housing assistance. My name is currently on the waiting list for a family shelter, but I have been told that placement is not expected anytime soon because the family shelters are completely full.

I am also working with three different agencies to try to get emergency help, including possible hotel placement. So far, the issue has been that there are either no funds available or the help cannot come through fast enough to meet our deadline.

I do receive cash assistance, but it is not enough to cover a full emergency hotel stay while we wait for public housing, family shelter placement, or another stable housing option to become available.

I am trying to raise $2,500 to help cover an emergency hotel stay for my children and me. I chose this amount because I am not asking for extras. I am only asking for help with temporary shelter so we have somewhere safe to sleep while we wait for housing placement.

Every dollar raised will go directly toward a hotel stay. If the full goal is not reached, whatever is raised will still go toward covering as many nights of emergency shelter as possible.

This is not easy for me to ask, but I have done everything I know to do. I have made the calls, gotten on the waiting list, reached out to agencies, and followed every lead I could find. Right now, we are stuck in the gap between being approved for help and actually having somewhere safe to go.

Any amount would help us stay safe, together, and sheltered during this emergency.
