A SAFE SHELTER FOR BAME WOMEN IN HULL

Spende geschützt

Hull Sisters is a non-profit organization committed to aiding Black and minority ethnic women facing human rights challenges, including violence, abuse, racism, discrimination, immigration hurdles, FGM, trafficking, poverty, and health disparities. Since 2012, we've provided a specialized safe space for isolated women in Hull.

Currently, we support over 1000 women and their children, many of whom have endured abuse at home and confront daily racism and discrimination.

After being evicted from our previous building during the pandemic, with the support of the public and media, we were able to lease a building, however, this is only a short-term solution, as our lease will expire at the end of this year. We aim to secure a permanent home by purchasing our own building to expand our reach and accommodate our increasing numbers, without waiting for another eviction notice from Hull City Council.

To accomplish this, £180,000 would enable us to purchase the building, based on the council's pricing. We urge you to support us by sharing our cause, liking, and leaving supportive comments. We've long been overlooked, and your solidarity can amplify our voice.

Why support Hull Sisters?

Since 2012, we've operated on limited funding, offering various free services tailored to Black and minority ethnic women, including ESOL language classes, sewing and cooking classes, employability training, IT and math classes, henna painting, yoga, and one-to-one support sessions. Particularly during the pandemic, we've become a vital lifeline, providing a healing space where women can connect and understand each other's experiences.
Mainstream services often overlook the specific needs of Black and minority ethnic women. Hull Sisters directly addresses these needs. Without a permanent building, our ability to continue is in jeopardy.

We call for your support and solidarity to underscore the importance of services led "by and for" Black and minority ethnic women. Sharing our story will help spread the message that these needs are significant.
When we spoke to the BBC, they highlighted Hull City Council's lack of strategy to support BAME women. This must change, and we're grateful for any assistance in achieving that goal.
