I am trying to raise GBP2.5-3k  (R40k) to help Cynthia buy a safe home for her and her family.   Her 5 year old little girl has suffered horrendous trauma – sexual abuse and rape by a 9 year old boy.  The police and Rape Crisis people are working with her, but long term it is just as vitally important that she is able to move her family to a safe home and school with proper aftercare facilities.

For full details, please take a moment to read her story below. Thank you!

Cynthia shared her horrific story with me a few days ago.  Her 5 year old daughter is being raped by a 9 year old boy at the house where this little girls goes after school.  The woman who offered her childcare services has a tenant on the property and it is this tenant’s son that has committed this atrocious act!

“After school care” for these poor South Africans, is not the aftercare that you and I are used to, or would expect – a clean, safe environment with constant supervision by qualified care givers.  For them, aftercare is any old Joe Soap who says they’ll look after your child in exchange for some food or a few Rands.   Cynthia is domestic worker, she earns very little, she has no transport and her daily life to keep a roof over her head and that of her 2 small children is a struggle.  Ladies like Cynthia have very few options available to them in terms of earning a living, and caring for their children whilst they put in a full day of hard slog.

Cynthia was living with her mom, who is also housing her 5 other siblings, all their partners and all their kids – all in 2 rooms.  This is how TOO MANY of these poor people have to live!!  Kids and adults sharing beds… kids being exposed to sexual activity pretty much from birth, growing up totally desensitised to it.   This is probably how this 9yr old boy even knew what to do – he’s probably seeing it every day and he’s just copying what he has seen… or even worse, he has been abused himself!

Cynthia is now sharing a small, cramped house with her uncle, and the children go to a school nearby.  The problem is that once school finishes, her little girl is still having to go to the same house after school for Aftercare.  THE SAME HOUSE WHERE SHE WAS BEING RAPED! Can you imagine how traumatising this must be for her, and terrifying for Cynthia, knowing her child is at risk, but she literally has no other options for childcare at the moment.   The best she has been able to arrange now is for a high-school girl to collect her from the house when she herself finishes school later in the afternoon (so at least this child is only there briefly!) and take her to her brother’s school, while they wait for Mom to finish work.

My goal is to help Cynthia buy a house for just her and her kids.  Just a simple 2 room dwelling in a better area, with a better school that has proper aftercare facilities for her 2 kids.

All we need is R40 000.00  - which is somewhere between GBP2500 and 3000 depending on exchange rate.

Foreign currency goes a very long way in South Africa.  GBP, USD, AUD…   it really wouldn’t take much from very many people to achieve this goal.   I really do appeal to you from the bottom of my heart to help make this happen!  No amount is too small – it all adds up!  Please help if you can!  Thank you!
