Our journey through this adventure called life has given us so many opportunities for growth (homelessness/section 8) as well as heart connections (friends/community resources) that quite frankly are the foundation for healthy long lasting unions.
The Big Brother and Big Sister program is an agency that connects "BIGS" (mentors) with "LITTLES" (youth) to develop social connections, and support to various families in the greater Los Angeles area. We were fortunate enough to be selected to participate in our local chapter and have been blessed with 3 phenomenal human beings (Elizabeth, Jessica, and Dion) that have taken our children under their wings and nurtured and cared for them like their own. I can honestly say that it does take a village to raise offspring and ours is growing rapidly and mightily in love!
After being homeless 5 times from 2001-2015 we qualified for a housing voucher that allowed our family of 5 to rent a 3 bedroom house near USC to call home until January 4, 2019 when we found ourselves (for the 6th time) without a home of our own (temporarily) again. The Dream Center located in Echo Park allowed us to return and stay at their facility over the last 4 months until we took possession of our new 4 bdrm., 3 bath house on May 1, 2019.
To "spice up the pot" my husband (David) had to go on unpaid medical leave at the end of March to undergo surgery on his intestines and bladder on April 2nd. He is recovering splendidly while awaiting his final surgery for June 4th to reverse is ileostomy bag after 2 years of life altering medical issues.
In the interim I am the sole bread winner doing my best to make ends meet with my rep job for Addison Lee by day and driving for Uber at night. Needless to say I have fallen behind and as of June 1st will owe $1000 to Public Storage, 3625 S. Grand Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90007 (213) [phone redacted] that must be paid in full no later than June 30th or they will sell our stuff and deny us permanent access to all of our belongings.
I also learned that I have a 10 year old past due balance of $400 that must be paid to U-haul before they will rent a truck to me again to move. I anticipate the new charges for the moving truck to be approximately $350 which we need to raise, in addition to the money to pay off the fine for child support court on June 27th and the DMV costs (because they suspended David's license for nonpayment while he is on medical leave) so we have to get it returned so he can earn additional monies driving once he heals and can return to work. (Never a dull moment in our lives!)
With all that being said we are asking for help in anyway possible to meet these financial obligations so that we can continue to move onward and upward in this particular season of our existence! Even though we face some challenges we are so grateful for difficulty because it builds character and cultivates our village growth.
We cannot express our appreciation enough for friends, family, and angels in disguise that show up and stand beside us in the battle to be burden free in the face of adversity! Thank you for all your prayers and support and we send much love, peace and many blessings right back to you and yours from now until...
Sincerest regards,
Tracey Riley (Boelens) and our village family!
