Mother and Baby Unit at St John’s Hospital

I am raising funds for the Mother and Baby Unit at St John’s Hospital.

In October of this year at 5 months post partum, I began to become unwell and was admitted into the Mother and Baby Unit. This was a tough and stressful time with it being an unexpected admission, the staff at the unit were amazing in helping care for myself and Layla whilst also working with us to move forward. After a month in their care I was discharged home and still receive amazing support from them weekly.

The unit is made up of only 6 beds for mother and baby to stay together. It is only one of two in Scotland so mothers who need help for mental health during pregnancy/post partum may have to travel from places as far as Inverness or further meaning they are away from family for long periods. The staff are made up of nursery nurses, nurses, doctors and occupational therapist. Their roles are pivotal in helping mothers to recover but helping to continue the bond between mum and baby. They also supports family and fathers during this difficult time too.

They do not receive any extra funding so toys/items for babies and mothers are either bought by staff or gifted by members of the public.

My partner and I are going to be taking part in the 15km tough mudder in June 2025 and any funds raised will be going to the mother and baby unit! If you have read this far then we would really appreciate if you could spare a couple of pounds. Thanks x☺️
