Hi friends!
I have been given the amazing opportunity to serve the children living at the Amigos de Jesús home for children in Honduras. The home takes in children who were previously abandoned and/or abused and provides a loving home for them. I will be living, eating, praying, playing with, and teaching the children from July 2015 until August 2016.
I served at Amigos de Jesús last summer to help provide a summer camp for the elementary students. My experience was life changing. Witnessing how grateful each child is for the smallest things in life opened my eyes and helped me appreciate all of the things I had previously taken for granted. I fell in love with the children and found myself wanting to devote my life more fully to helping them.
The children, volunteers, and staff of Amigos de Jesús are some of the most beautiful people I have ever met. They do not have many possessions, but they are filled with a happiness that money cannot buy. Through my service I hope to participate more fully in the Christian call to charity and live life to the fullest while serving these beautiful children.
As a teacher, I have had the privilege of teaching many wonderful children here in the United States, and hope to use this experience to guide my volunteer experience. I feel I am called to help those less fortunate in the world, and I know this will give me a wider perspective on life, love, and joy.
I am responsible for raising money to cover the cost of my room, board, and health insurance during my term of service, which is $4,400. I will be attending language school in Honduras for a month prior to my service in order to improve my Spanish and my ability to communicate with the people I will be serving. This will cost $1,000. In addition, I need to cover the cost of my flight to Honduras, which will cost $800. I am asking for your support in raising the needed funds for my year of service. Your donations will directly help the children and allow me to live my dream of helping them.
