This is your community. Your support is urgently needed to help protect the safety of our children and neighborhood.

THIS IS NOT OVER!

Our Superior Court lawsuit is ongoing and our trial is scheduled for October. More funds and fundraisers are needed to keep your opposition going!

City of Camas and Discover Recovery continue to defend zoning a drug detox center next to an elementary school. In this process, they are generating more legal work for our team in the hope they can bury your voice.

Please take a look at our new website at www.dfsacamas.com and please share, donate again, help fundraise via the community and use your voice.

 Our Mission Continues:

Dorothy Fox Safety Alliance is filed a Land Use Petition Act in Clark County Superior Court. We believe that the best chance we have of overturning this decision is via a fair and impartial Superior Court Judge. Unlike the Hearings Examiner assigned to this case, a Superior Court Judge will carefully consider ALL evidence and arguments in this case before making a ruling.

We support treatment facilities that help those seeking a life free from addiction, but not next to an elementary school. Discover Recovery targets out-of-state patients on a for-profit basis, this facility isn’t servicing locals. They admit patients on a voluntary basis, which means they can leave at any time, for whatever reason, with or without notice – and even against the advice of medical staff.  There is a more suitable location for this facility in Camas that both supports Camas residents seeking help from addiction, while also protecting the safety and well-being of our children.

You may have noticed a lack of official comment, support of the Alliance, transparency to us as citizens, and leadership from your elected officials on this matter. From recent public records requests, it appears that the City, and the City code, has been exploited and this application has not followed due process. All the while, Camasonians have been left in the dark.  Does this sound familiar? More to follow on this.

 How can you help:

Donations: We need your donations to support a court battle. Up to this point, we were a group of citizens led by a pro bono lawyer. But now, we are proceeding into a court battle against a desperate company who just dropped $2.3M on a facility without a license to operate and retained one of the most powerful legal firms in the PNW.

As we enter the trial stage, we required a more robust legal team with the land use background and resources to help win this case. Stephanie Marshall, a land use litigation expert, currently a Hearings Examiner in Oregon and former King County Prosecutor for the Land Use Division is our representation. Her resume is attached below. For full disclosure, she is our pro bono lawyer Brian Lewallen’s sister-in-law. We feel this is an asset in this case as she is already fully up to speed with the case and ready to hit the ground running.

Thankfully, Brian Lewallen – our pro bono lawyer – has agreed to continue to support Stephanie and our Alliance free of charge. We need your monetary support to help fund the lawsuit which will likely take over a year to fully litigate.  Please donate here: https://gofund.me/15e3a0bb

Time & Effort: DFSA is stepping up activities on all fronts to raise awareness, recruit help and expertise, continue researching and compiling all the background needed to win this important case. We need your help! If you are interested in helping and supporting the cause, please contact us at [email redacted]

 Summary:

It is disappointing that the citizens of Camas must go to court to ensure the safety and wellbeing of schoolchildren and your community – something our City Council and city government should have done long ago. We are 100% committed to doing everything we can to protect our children and this amazing city we all call home.

We cannot do it without you…thank you for reading, for your help, support, and any donations you can make.
