So what is Free Cakes for Kids all about? Free Cakes for Kids is a movement of local volunteers and community groups, who share a simple belief: every child deserves a birthday cake.
Since 2008, we have been baking for thousands of families who find it difficult to provide a birthday cake for their child. This may be due to financial concerns; housing issues; or a family situation. We have baked for families who have just arrived in the UK; single parent families where the parent was in hospital; and families who were in temporary accommodation after a fire in their family home.
Our cakes are homemade, delicious and usually feature the child’s favourite theme or style. We have made birthday cakes in the theme of Peppa Pig; Bob the Builder; and Mac makeup! We do this because we love baking and are passionate about our communities. Using are our skills as bakers, neighbours and good citizens, we battle hardship, build relations, encourage volunteering and create memories that last longer than a day. The cakes are free of charge to the family with no strings attached.
We could not operate without the generosity and kindness of our volunteers and supporters. On average, it costs around £10 to bake, decorate and deliver a birthday cake. We have set up this fundraiser so that we can distribute funds across our network of over 60 groups. We would love to be able to raise enough money to fund 10 birthday cakes in each group in 2020! That would be over 600 children in 2020 who would get a birthday cake when they may otherwise go without. Once the fundraising is complete, the Free Cakes For Kids UK group will distribute the money across the network to those active groups.
