Support the Fight Against Food Insecurity in Ghana
Donation protected
Hello! We are Theresa, Rebecca, and Steve fundraising for our daughter/sister volunteering in Ghana, West Africa. She is living within a community in the Bono East region, serving as an agriculture volunteer to help farmers by building their capacity on agriculture related topics, and doing projects to help them generate more income. One of her projects is Animal Husbandry in order to help combat food insecurity in her area, as well as support farmers to make more money from their practice, and to increase the animal welfare of the livestock. She has 25 groups, consisting of 150 farmers that are participating in her main project where they will get financial assistance to build the proper facilities, vaccinate, and receive new improved genetics into their herds/flocks. The farmers are expected to pay 25% of the total budget of this project, and usually that comes in the form of resources, labour, and land.
To increase the capacity of the farmers and sustainability of the project, she is collaborating with Farming in Africa to create a multi-phase program. This 3 phase plan includes bringing people in her animal husbandry group to the Farming in Africa training facility, having Farming in Africa staff come to her site to give consultations and education, and to provide bi-annual visits to the groups for additional support and education past when she completes her service in Ghana.
To make all of this possible, she is looking for $7,500 to support the project to allow the farmers to take advantage of this initiative with Farming in Africa. This would have an invaluable impact on the success and sustainability of this project, which in turn will positively affect the lives of many families in the community for a long time to come.
