Hello! I'm Ryley, a biomedical science undergraduate first year planning a 2-week volunteering programme in Bali (July/August 2026) with Think Pacific. This immersive trip brings together my passion for health and global issues by allowing me to work alongside local health professionals and community leaders. I’ll learn about Balinese healthcare traditions, herbal medicine, and wellbeing, while helping support initiatives that tackle challenges like nutrition, sanitation and mental health. This experience will deepen my understanding of global health and help me give back to a rural community.

I’ve been offered a place on Think Pacific’s “Health & Nursing” programme in Bali. This opportunity will allow me to apply what I’ve learned in university in a real-world setting and prepare for a future career in healthcare. I’ll take part in health education activities, wellbeing workshops and cultural exchanges that will challenge me to think differently about what healthcare looks like across the world.

However, the trip has costs, and I’m fundraising to help cover them. Many students fundraise their programme fees, and I’m doing the same by reaching out to friends, family, and the wider community for support. Every donation, no matter how small, will bring me one step closer to making this opportunity a reality. Not to mention picking up more shifts at work to put me at around 30 hours a week on top of my studies and commitments at the UoP lacrosse women's BUCS team goalkeeper with training and games each week.

What Donations Will Help Fund:

Your support will directly fund my placement and help make a lasting impact in Bali. Think Pacific is a social enterprise that partners with local organisations, and the fees I pay go toward supporting their work in the community. Here’s what your donation would help cover:

Programme fee – includes accommodation, meals, local transport, and cultural activities

Flights – return travel from London to Bali

Travel insurance, visa, and vaccinations

Project materials – basic health education supplies or equipment used on-site

What I’m Doing in Return – Fundraising Challenges

To make this more than just a donation request, I’m committing to challenges and pledges to show that I’m earning your support. Some of the things I’ll be doing:

No Takeaways for a Month: I’ll cut out all takeaways for a full month and put the money I would’ve spent into the fundraiser.

Skill Swap: For larger donations, I’ll offer science tutoring or presentations to share what I’ve learned – for schools, friends’ kids, or other students.

Public talking: I have volunteered to go back to my school and other groups I was apart of to speak about my experience of volunteering to inspire people as well as educate them on what NGOs and small charities do.

These pledges give me a way to stay accountable and show appreciation for every donation I receive.

Hi all, it is now April 29th and I have paid off my programme fees and half of my flight fees.

All that’s left is the final £600 of my flights, my travel/health insurance and vaccines of £200 and my visa on arrival at £30.
