Im running the Hamptons Half Marathon to raise money for Ryan Jepson. Ryan has defied the odds since birth. Ryan was born two months early with the umbilical cord wrapped four times tightly around his neck. As a result, he suffered a severe brain injury. Doctors gave the darkest of outlooks for Ryan, but like the true fighter he is Ryan did not give up! He has since been diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy (CP) and is significantly delayed reaching his milestones. Ryan's condition will require a lifetime of Intensive Physical Therapy (costing over $200 each hour out of pocket and not in network), other medical treatments, a handicap accessible vehicle, home modifications such as widening doors, ramps and a height adjustable changing table, more supportive high chairs, standers, walkers, but most importantly a lifetime of love and support. Although we are unsure of how Ryan's abilities will progress as he gets older, we know that with more interventions, improved supportive devices and a team of people cheering him on he will continue to amaze us all!
