Running to End Violence: In Memory of JR

My name is Jordan Outerbridge, and on May 23rd 2025, I’ll be running in the Bermuda Half Marathon Derby in honor of my brother, Wilfred Outerbridge Jr.— also known to many as Jay.

JR was taken from us far too soon due to gun violence in November 2023. He was more than a brother — he was a father, a friend, and someone who deeply cared for people, especially those facing hard times. He leaves behind three children who have been deeply impacted by his loss.

This run is for him.

But more than that, it’s for the lives he touched, the family he loved, and the message he stood for.

I’m using this opportunity not just to honor JR, but to take a stand — to say that violence has no place in our community, and that we must come together to protect and uplift each other.

I’m asking for your support, for two charities that reflect JR’s heart and values:

1. The Gina Spence Program, whose mission is to bridge critical gaps in grief and loss support within our community by fostering resilience, healing, and hope.

2. The Salvation Army, which exists to share the love of Jesus Christ, meet human needs, and be a transforming influence in the communities of our world.

All funds raised will be donated equally between these two charities. Your donation — big or small — helps turn JR’s story into action and brings hope where it’s needed most.

Unfortunately, JR’s case remains unsolved. Bermuda Police Service asked for anyone with possible information on JR’s murder to use the main police number, or the 211 reporting line. Information can also be provided through the BPS online community reporting portal. Additionally, anyone may use the independent and anonymous Crime Stoppers Bermuda hotline, or submit confidential tips via its website, www.crimestoppers.bm
