On May 3rd this year, I’ll be running the Toronto Marathon to raise funds for the The Jonathan Kwon Foundation, in memory of Jonathan -- someone whose presence left a lasting mark on everyone lucky enough to know him.
Jonathan was deeply loved by his family and friends. He had a way of making people feel seen and valued, and his kindness carried far beyond any single moment or interaction. The stories shared by those closest to him speak to a life that was full of generosity, warmth, and genuine care for others.
I moved to Toronto in 2022, knowing almost no one. Shortly after, I met Jonathan through Liz and Hunter. He quickly pulled me into his circle of friends, lightened every moment with his humour, and made those early days in a new city feel far less uncertain. He’d send thoughtful recommendations -- restaurants to try, music to listen to -- small gestures that meant more than he probably ever realized.
Though I only knew Jonathan for a short time, it was clear how much he meant to the people around him, and how strong his impact continues to be.
Running has always been personal for me. Each marathon, I try to dedicate the miles to someone I love and care about. It's a small way to honour the people who have shaped my life. In the past, I’ve run for my grandparents, celebrating their strength and longevity. This year, I’m running for Jonathan.
In his memory, I’m also raising funds for The Jonathan Kwon Foundation, created by his family to honour his life and continue the positive impact he had on others.
Donate and leave a comment along with your donation to add a song to my marathon playlist -- whether it reminds you of Jonathan or is something you love, I’ll carry it with me on the run. Sharing music was always one of Jonathan’s love languages, so what better way to honour him than sharing love the way he did best ♥︎
If you’re able to contribute, any amount helps support this mission and keeps his legacy alive. If not, sharing this page is equally meaningful.
Thank you for being part of honouring Jonathan and the incredible impact he had on so many lives.
