On Sunday 19th April 2026, I’ll be taking on the Coventry Half Marathon — and I’m doing it for a cause that has changed (and potentially saved) my life: The Dynamo Project.
About The Dynamo Project
The Dynamo Project is a recovery community supporting men overcoming addiction. It offers a structured, safe and supportive environment where residents can rebuild their lives, restore relationships, and learn how to live free from substances.
But it’s more than just a place to stay.
It’s:
- Daily structure and accountability
- Peer support from people who truly understand
- Personal development and emotional growth
- A chance to rebuild family relationships
- A fresh start
They also run a powerful initiative called “Friends and Family” — a meeting designed to support the loved ones of those in recovery. It gives families insight into addiction, helps them understand what we’re going through, and begins healing on both sides.
For many of us, that understanding is life-changing.
♂️ My Story
Hi everyone,
I’m currently a resident at The Dynamo Project.
What started as social using — just a bit of fun with mates — quickly changed for me personally. It became dependency without me realising. Weekend using turned into weekend and weekday using, which eventually became nearly every day.
No one knew. Not even family, who I would see every day.
I struggled with my mental health for various reasons, and using became my way to feel better because I didn’t know or understand how to deal with my feelings and emotions.
Over time, normal day-to-day life became very hard to manage. I lost friends. I lost relationships with family. I lost jobs. I couldn’t see a way out.
That was until I found out about The Dynamo Project.
What started as trial days to get a feel for how it works eventually became full-time residency. Moving in has potentially saved my life.
The “Friends and Family” meetings have helped repair relationships in ways I didn’t think were possible. My family are beginning to understand what I’m going through — even when I couldn’t explain it myself.
Recovery isn’t easy. It takes commitment, discipline, honesty, and courage. And that’s exactly why I’m running this half marathon.
Why the Coventry Half Marathon?
The Coventry Half Marathon takes place in the heart of the city, starting on Gosford Street and finishing at Coventry Cathedral, with thousands of runners and supporters lining the streets.
For me, running 13.1 miles represents:
- Pushing through discomfort
- Building discipline
- Proving to myself I can finish what I start
- Replacing old habits with healthy ones
- Showing that recovery is possible
Training for this race is part of my recovery journey. Every mile I run is a reminder that I’m moving forward — not backwards.
Why I’m Fundraising
The Dynamo Project relies on support and fundraising to continue providing life-changing recovery services and family support.
Your donation will help:
- Support current and future residents
- Fund recovery programmes and group sessions
- Maintain safe accommodation
- Continue the “Friends and Family” meetings
- Give someone else the chance I’ve been given
If The Dynamo Project hadn’t been there when I needed it, I genuinely don’t know where I’d be.
How You Can Help
If you’re able to donate — big or small — it would mean the world to me.
If you can’t donate, sharing this page helps more than you know.
Thank you for supporting me, supporting recovery, and supporting The Dynamo Project.
Let’s get to that finish line together ♂️
