Running the BMO Vancouver Marathon for Dementia UK
On May 4th, I’ll be running the BMO Vancouver Marathon to raise money for Dementia UK in memory of my amazing grandma. It’s going to be a challenge—especially after a slight injury setback—but knowing I’m doing it for such an important cause will keep me pushing through every mile!
Dementia is a heartbreaking condition that affects not only those diagnosed but also their families and loved ones. My grandma was one of those incredible individuals who battled dementia, and witnessing her journey firsthand has left a lasting impact on me.
She was a loving, kind and strong woman who always put family first. As the disease progressed, we watched her memories fade, her independence slip away, and her personality shift in ways that were both painful and challenging. Yet, through it all, she remained the heart of our family, reminding us of the importance of love, patience, and compassion.
I am raising funds for Dementia UK, a charity that provides specialist nursing support to families affected by dementia. The work they do is invaluable, and I want to honour my grandma’s memory by supporting those who continue to fight this disease.
Thank you for your kindness and support!
