Running the Berlin marathon for Craigavon ICU

Donation protected
3 years have come and gone since the extraordinary circumstances of the pandemic world stripped away the most basic ways of connecting with each other, especially when someone we loved fell ill. Many of us are still trying to face our vulnerability and understand what happened. I've focused the last months on redirecting this into a mental and physical challenge.

In May 2020, my father's health took a downward turn, placing him in the hands of the remarkable medical staff at Craigavon ICU unit in County Armagh. Due to the prevailing health restrictions of the pandemic, we were unable to be at his side when it was most important to us. These doctors and nurses did everything possible to make him comfortable, held his hand, and put the phone to his ear when it was time for us to say goodbye.

It's heartbreaking to acknowledge that Northern Ireland suffers from the most underfunded healthcare system in the UK and Ireland. After years of budget cuts and an absence of a government amid a political stalemate, it has descended into crisis. Watching the mental burnout of these professionals and the waiting lists grow for patients has been difficult.

To offer my support, I will run the Berlin Marathon on the 24th of September 2023, aiming to raise funds to purchase critical equipment for the Craigavon ICU unit. Every single donation makes a tremendous difference, and I am incredibly grateful for your contributions. To make a donation, please click ‘Donate Now’, where you can choose any amount you wish.

With each stride across the 42.2 km, I’ll be thinking of my father, who would have celebrated his 65th birthday that same week. I’ll think of every nurse and doctor who selflessly serves their community day in and day out and I’ll think of each of you who donates to make a difference.

Join me on Strava as I prepare for this challenging journey - a schedule filled with rigorous training, strict dietary plans, and the constant mental battle to push my limits. This well-kept secret has been a source of both joy and nervous anticipation, and I am excited to share every step of this journey with you.

Thank you for your support.
