I'm about to run the Barcelona Marathon on March 10th, 2024. This will be my first-ever marathon, and long-distance running is very much new to me. I'd be lying if I said I've been on job and have been training like Rocky day in, day out. But one way or another, I will get past that finish line - whether I'll be forcing a smile or on all fours crawling I don't know...
Why am I doing this to myself? I'm doing this on the behalf of the Puvana Foundation. A charity my mum and I started to help alleviate some of the poverty in Sri Lanka, mainly the northern region.
Currently we've been supporting 10 families with single mothers on a monthly basis with a monthly hamper that is filled with necessities to get by. In the long run (no pun intended) we wish to help these families become self-sufficient and break the cycle of dependency.
Ultimately we want to help more families get on their feet and the long term vision is to open a small school (many schools one day hopefully!), where children are provided breakfast, lunch and dinner as long as they attend. At the moment they bunk school to beg. Knowledge is power hence we named the charity Puvana Foundation, named after my grandmother who was a school teacher that believed change comes from nurturing and educating the next generation.
The donations from the marathon will go directly to kick start the operation & putting structures in place! So we can not only continue to help these 10 families, but many more and start making the vision a reality!
I can't express how much of an impact every donation will make regardless of how big or small it is.
Thank you for your generosity and support. Love.
